Call for local area service extension

Representatives of regular railway passengers have demanded extension of the Kochi local area service till Vaikom Road to Kottayam side and the Chalakudy service to Thrissur side.
The demand was put forward during the 63rd divisional railway user's consultative committee (DRUCC) meeting conducted under the chairmanship of Sunil Bajpai, divisional railway manager (DRM)-Thiruvananthapuram, on Wednesday .
“Railway authorities said that the local area service introduced on June 21 has become a hit with a daily passenger turnout of around 1,700 people. We demanded that the services of the train be extended to Vaikom Road and Chalakudy so that more people can avail the service. Rail way authorities said they would look into it. They have also assured that the timeta ble of the train would be re vised so that maximum passengers can use the facility,“ said Paul K J Manvettom, president, All Kerala railway users' association and member of DRUCC.
